Our Program

Here at the J, we take pride in helping children and families learn, play and connect with their community.

Curriculum

Our educational vision is based on the High Scope Preschool Curriculum. Research-based and child-focused, High Scope uses a carefully designed process — called "active participatory learning" — to achieve powerful, positive outcomes. By creating a classroom environment that allows for open-ended learning and discovery, we give children a chance to build their understanding of the world. We also believe that learning is a cooperative venture that includes other children, their teachers, their families, and our larger community.

School and Summer programs are open from 8:00AM 3:30PM, Monday through Friday. Aftercare is available until 5:00PM on Monday through Thursday.

Shabbat

"Shabbat Shalom!" (Peaceful Shabbat)

Every Friday, the students gather together to sing, dance, and celebrate Shabbat! Shabbat is a day of rest that lasts from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday every week. It's traditional to have two loaves of challah, light candles, and enjoy a day of rest.

One of the highlights of Shabbat is when the children bake challah to take home and enjoy with their families. This wonderful aroma adds an extra element of excitement.

Infant Room

Age: Twelve Weeks (by October 15th)

Our infant program is designed to foster children’s physical, sensory, social, emotional, and intellectual development in a safe, gentle, and caring environment. Our teachers know that babies grow and learn best when they feel secure. Our maximum group size is eight infants with three teachers. Each child is assigned a primary caregiver who attends to the child’s individual needs and works in partnership with parents to ensure the child receives the best possible care while at school. Infants develop trust and security when they know their teachers will be right there to help support learning through growth and joy, and to help when they are upset.

Toddler Room

Age: One Year (by October 15th)

Our youngest toddler program slowly and gently introduces children, moving from the individual nature of infancy to the joys of being part of a group. This classroom has a maximum group size of ten children with three teachers. The curriculum is designed to support young toddlers as they learn to master both expressive and receptive language, to play cooperatively with peers, and practice making their way in a world where they long for independence yet still require support from a loving, affectionate and trusted adult. Each child is allowed the space, support and time to develop newly acquired skills at their own pace, with guidance from their teachers.

Our Toddler program maintains a 4:1 ratio with a maximum group size of twelve. It is designed to provide toddlers with opportunities to explore while addressing the specific needs, challenges, and delights of this age group. There is an emphasis on freedom of movement and gross/fine motor development, as well as supporting child-to-child interactions. The children in this group are becoming more aware of one another, and social play is becoming more complex. The daily curriculum offers toddlers opportunities to explore the environment according to their capabilities, interests, and developmental needs.

Preschool I Room

Age: Three to Five Years (by October 15th)

Children in the Preschool room enjoy a space where they can experience the joy of creative exploration through group and individual play. Through a guided process, they are exposed to literature, math, science, art, music, and cooking. Our Preschool Room maintains a maximum group size of sixteen children with three teachers. Children have the opportunity to explore topics of interest in depth. The children’s social skills bloom as they learn about sharing, taking turns, and the value of cooperative play. They discover that they are part of a larger world and that the rewards of friendship are plentiful.
