The Great Big Maine Challah Bake is back — and bigger than ever!

The Great Big Maine Challah Bake is a joyful, hands-on celebration of Jewish tradition, learning, and community. Hosted by Rimon, the JCA’s initiative dedicated to nourishing Jewish women’s lives through connection, learning, spirituality, and celebration, the event welcomes women and girls ages 10+ from across Maine to gather together and make challah.

Lead Baker

Cheryl Holbert from Nomad Bakery joins us this year as our lead baker.

Cheryl Holbert

Cheryl Holbert is an artisan baker, teacher, and fiber artist whose love of bread began with the inspiration of her mother and grandmother. What started with baking a simple loaf of sandwich bread in her first apartment grew into a lifelong passion for breadmaking.

Today, Cheryl runs a homestead bakery in Southern New Hampshire, baking organic sourdough loaves, Middle Eastern flatbreads, and beautifully designed challah using organic and locally sourced ingredients. Her love of tapestry weaving has found its way into her baking, inspiring intricate bread designs that blend culinary and textile arts.

Cheryl is also a dedicated educator whose monthly baking classes bring students together from across the country. Through her baking, teaching, and creative collaborations with local farmers and food producers, she celebrates the artistry, tradition, and community that can be found around the table.

We're so excited to welcome Cheryl to our community Challah Bake this year!
