Are you a sewer, quilter, or fiber artist looking for a unique way to show support for refugees in your community? The JCA has an exciting opportunity for you! As part of the Sickler Welcome Blanket project, we have received quilting supplies and easy to follow instructions to create blankets that will be gifted to local refugees when they arrive in Maine.
Join us on March 15th from 10AM-12PM to attend an information session and learn more about creating a Welcome Blanket. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced crafter – those of all skill levels will be supported.
After the information session, participants are welcome to stay and start quilting!
Quilting kits containing pre-cut fabric swatches, batting, and instructions will be available for free. We encourage those with their own sewing machine to bring it with them, as we will have a limited number of machines to use on site.
Come to spend time creating in community and learning together – and at the end, the blanket you work on will be given to a client of our HIAS refugee resettlement program.
Help us ensure a “warm welcome” to Maine for everyone we serve this year!
