Virtual Trip to Israel: Visit Hiriya – Turning a mountain of garbage into a park
Presented by Congregation Bet Ha’am
Tuesday, August 18, 12:00 Noon
Congregation Bet Ha’am is excited to announce a new series of off-the-beaten-path travel programs with our friend and Israeli tour guide, Yoram Preminger.
In this first program of three, we will join Yoram for an unusual visit to an unusual site. For fifty years, Hiriya was the largest garbage dump in Israel, serving all of metropolitan Tel Aviv. The landfill grew into a mountain of garbage 200 feet high and became known as the ugliest site in the country. However, in recent years it has turned from an environmental hazard into Israel’s largest eco-park, a symbol of the environment revolution in Israel.
