Tashlich is Hebrew meaning “to cast,” referring to the idea of tossing away our sins. Because sins are not something you can touch we use breadcrumbs or small pieces of bread to represent them. Water represents cleansing so in the Tashlich ceremony we name the sins we want to cleanse and toss the bread into flowing water to be taken away.
May we all cast our sins away and be signed and sealed in the Book of Life for a good and sweet New Year!
Join Rabbi Herzfeld and the Shaarey Tphiloh congregation as we meet for Tashlich on Sunday, September 17, 2023 following services. We will leave approximately around 1:30pm from 400 Deering Ave and walk to Back Cove at Dartmouth St. and Baxter Blvd.
