Reb Nachman of Bratslav used to pray: רבונו של עולם Master of the Universe, grant me the ability to be alone; may it be my custom to go outdoors each day among the trees and grass, among all growing things. May I express there everything in my heart, and may all the foliage of the field — all grasses, trees, and plants — awake at my coming, to send the powers of their life into the words of my prayer …

Come renew Temple Beth El’s tradition and join us for an outdoor Shabbat experience as we walk together amidst the local beauty of the greater Portland area. Through niggunin (wordless melodies), zmirot (shabbat songs), psalms, silence, conversation, prayer, and our own words of Torah, we will make our shul the outdoors as we celebrate the created world on this day of rest. No experience necessary. Bring sturdy shoes, a mask, water bottle and an openness for all growing things. We will also have a picnic kiddush together, so please bring your own delights. Facilitated by Rabbinic Intern Lorin Troderman (lorin.troderman@tbemaine.org); your input is welcome to help make this a meaningful experience for all.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Please RSVP by Thursday, December 3. An email will go out to registered participants on Friday, December 4 with details on where to meet.
