MUSIC AT THE J: Owen Kennedy and Owen Marshall

Live music is back at the JCA! To kick off our 2023-24 season, we are delighted to present Owen Kennedy and Owen Marshall, who will dazzle you with their virtuosic arrangements of traditional Maine Maritime and Celtic tunes! Concert runs from 7:00-8:20 PM, followed by a light reception and CD-signing.

Maine fiddler Owen Kennedy is an eighteen-year-old award-winning musician whose love of traditional music and enthusiasm for performing has captivated audiences from San Diego to the Shetland Islands and all over New England. As an emerging musician rooted in the Maine Maritime tradition and immersed in his growing passion for Scottish music, Owen’s powerful playing can capture the melancholy of a Scottish air, mimic the sound of bagpipes in a march, or drive a good ol’ New England contradance tune.

Owen Marshall has emerged as one of the foremost accompanists of traditional music. Known for his fluid and spontaneous bouzouki work and driving and melodic guitar accompaniment, Owen has toured and recorded with the likes of the Seamus Egan Project; Copley Street; Liz Carroll; Riptide; Jenna Moynihan; The Press Gang; Wooden Nickels; Haas, Marshall and Walsh; and a Christmas Celtic Sojourn.

Owen Kennedy began performing with Owen Marshall at Maine Fiddle Camp camper concerts and variety shows when he was eight years old. Since then, they’ve performed together at Blue for Hornpipe Night in Portland, and at the New World Festival in Vermont. Owen Kennedy and Owen Marshall recently recorded an album together, Oh When: Now, which is currently available on Bandcamp. The thoughtfulness and innovation of Owen Marshall’s bouzouki and guitar accompaniments paired with Owen Kennedy’s engaging and joyful fiddling promise a special album release event!
