Join Rimon – The Portland Jewish Women’s Group and the JCA for our first Great Big Maine Challah Bake – learn about the Jewish tradition and ritual of challah baking, connect with new and old friends, and participate in hands-on challah dough preparation and braiding. Challah dough will be taken home to be baked along with instructions. Our lead baker guiding us through the process will be Graeme Miller of BenReuben’s Knishery and our featured speaker will be Rabbi Rachel Isaacs of the Center for Small Town Jewish Life and Beth Israel Congregation in Waterville. International klezmer musicians Rabbi Sruli Dresdner and Lisa Mayer of Temple Shalom Synagogue Center in Auburn will enrich our experience with a live performance.
This event is modeled on similar events held in JCCs and communities around the world, created by The Shabbat Project.
Per the JCA’s COVID policy, proof of vaccination is required at our indoor programs. Masks are now optional.
Finances should not be a barrier to participation. To request subsidized or free tickets, please contact Deena at dschoenfeld@mainejewish.org.
