#GivingTuesday Recap and Photos

Thank you so much to each and every one of you who participated in #GivingTuesday in support of the JCA’s Annual Campaign yesterday! We were fortunate to receive over $5,000 in online donations throughout the day – a really special feat considering that most of us were homebound due to the first major snowfall of the season.

As part of our Giving Tuesday initiatives, we enlisted the help of students at the Goldman Family Preschool to donate food, diapers, and books for Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services and then visit the pantry to sort and assemble their donations on our shelves! Here are a few of those stories:

Infants: The infant room, aka our youngest artists, used their footprints to make cards that will accompany diaper packs distributed through our Diaper Bank at KJFS. Here are a few of the infants who helped decorate diaper packs (that were later wrapped and assembled by Afterschool Program kids)!

One Year Old Classroom: Held a non-perishable food, diaper and wipe drive over the past week and a half, and yesterday had a special field trip down the hall to Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services to deliver their donations, sort them on the shelves, and learn a little about why the JCA operates our food and diaper pantries.

Two-Year-Old Classroom: Held a tzedakah (righteous giving) drive over the past week and a half, collecting and counting money. Yesterday they had TWO special field trips! The first was to our local Shaw’s Supermarket to put their donations to use buying canned and other non-perishable foods, and the second was a trip down the hall to Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services to deliver their donations, sort them on the shelves, and learn a little about why the JCA operates our food and diaper pantries.

Nursery Classroom: Held a non-perishable food drive over the past week and a half, and had fun stacking their donations into pyramids while they waited for their big donation day! Yesterday was finally that day! They had a special field trip down the hall to Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services to deliver their donations, sort them on the shelves, and learn a little about why the JCA operates our food and diaper pantries.

Pre-K Classroom: Held a very special book drive over the past week and a half, bringing in their own favorites that they’ve grown out of, along with brand new books. Yesterday they had a special field trip down the hall to Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services to deliver their donations, sort them on the book shelves, and learn a little about why the JCA operates our food and diaper pantries. When kids accompany their parents to our pantry, we’re so pleased they will be able to browse our book shelves and bring a new book home with them!

Afterschool Program: Using diapers collected by our one year old classroom, and special cards made by our infant room, they assembled diaper packs! The crew worked in pairs counting diapers, assembling them neatly, adding a card, wrapping them up and adding a sticker onto the front. Afterward, they took a special field trip down the hall to Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services to deliver the diaper packs, sort them on the shelves, and learn a little about why the JCA operates our food and diaper pantries.

We also received these incredible testimonials from JCA supporters. We cannot tell you how it means to us to know exactly what the J means to YOU!
