PJ Library Coordinator

The JCA’s mission is to enhance and promote Jewish life and continuity locally, in Israel and throughout the world, and to generate the financial resources to develop, provide and support diverse programs, education and services in order to accomplish these goals.


The JCA seeks a skilled and passionate professional to run our PJ Library program, which provides age-appropriate, relevant, and fun Jewish programming for kids, as well as sending free Jewish-themed books monthly to enrolled families. As an ambassador for the JCA and the welcoming face of the Jewish community of Southern Maine for families with young children, this staff member will bring to the position excellent interpersonal skills, an outgoing and friendly communication style, and experience working professionally with young children and their families. The successful candidate will demonstrate good judgement, discretion and sensitivity, and will have excellent project- and time-management skills. Training and support is provided by the JCA as well as the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, which also offers resources and financial incentive grants to help support the program.


The primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Commitment to the mission and work of the JCA
  • Developing and maintaining familiarity with the JCA’s different departments, programs, events, and initiatives
  • Understanding of the different Jewish religious denominations, the Hebrew calendar, Shabbat and Jewish holiday rituals and customs, and kashrut dietary practices
  • Familiarity with Southern Maine congregations and Jewish organizations as well as secular children’s organizations and programming
  • Developing professional connections with local Education/Religious School/Children’s program staff
  • Building relationships with local families in the Southern Maine Jewish community, and helping them connect with each other
  • Participating in professional listservs and networks nationally, as well as regular professional development opportunities (trainings, workshops, conferences etc.)
  • Flexibility and comfort with multi-tasking and juggling multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Drafting high quality, professional correspondence and written materials
  • Developing systems to track, schedule and document interactions and follow up with PJ library families
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, online survey tools, social media platforms, email marketing such as Constant Contact, and the ability to learn new software platforms independently and quickly
  • Experience developing and running children’s programming strongly preferred


This position reports to the JCA’s Director of Programming, and the job is part time, 12 hours per week, at $16 per hour; occasional evening and weekend hours are required to staff special events. The position is non-exempt. The holiday schedule will follow the JCA preschool, and includes several Jewish holidays as well as federal holidays when they fall during regularly scheduled work time.
