'J All Day' Summer Director

Description

J All Day Summer is a grant funded program created in partnership with Portland Public Schools for the 2020-2021 summer to support the community and provide summer camp programming. The J All Day Summer Director position is contingent upon the successful agreement between both community partners.

The role of the J All Day Summer Director is to plan and deliver program activities and summer camp events. The J All Day Summer Director provides direct support to up to 15 children enrolled in the program each day. Students are drawn from area schools, and from Kindergarten to third grade. The program runs the full day (8:00-5:00) five days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of all activities throughout the program.
  • Work with counselors to guide daily camp activities such as art lessons, games, indoor and outdoor gym activities, and collaborate in project and lesson planning
  • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of children’s abilities and skills

Maintain high standards of health and safety during all aspects of the program.

  • Ensure all children know and follow safety and educational procedures, including wearing face masks at all times when not eating, and washing hands regularly
  • Ensure children know and follow all appropriate rules
  • Confirm health screening form is complete every day, including a temperature check

Get to know children’s personalities, including their interests and their challenges:

  • Help plan appropriate programming that will appeal to a wide range of ages and abilities and the specific needs of enrolled students
  • Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their children to have a successful program experience

 

Requirements:

  • Experience working with elementary school students;
  • Ability to communicate and work with different groups (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to children
  • Ability to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Visual and auditory abilities to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist children in an emergency and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children

 

Hours: This is a full-time seasonal position.

The position will run for the duration of the program, which is scheduled to August 13, 2021.

Start Date: May 17, 2021

Salary:  $19/hour. Holiday pay based on the regular daily schedule will be provided during Federal or Jewish holidays that fall between May 17 and August 13, and 3 days of sick leave will be offered, as well as leave consistent with any Federal COVID-related leave legislation.
