225,263 Diapers Arrive at KJFS to Assist Refugees & Asylum Seekers

Several months ago, Portland, ME welcomed over 400 asylum-seekers from Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo that came to the city from the southwestern border.

As the city mobilized to help find them temporary/permanent housing, the JCA and Michael Klahr Jewish Family Services started a fundraising effort to bring an entire TRACTOR-TRAILER truckload of diapers to Maine to assist with the needs of these amazing families.

On September 4th, THE DIAPER TRUCK ARRIVED with 225,263 diapers (over 9,500 lbs)!

These diapers will help families as they start their new lives here in the US and await the processing of their asylum claims.

This effort would not have been possible without the help of HuggiesThe National Diaper Bank NetworkWayside Food Programs, and everyone who donated! THANK YOU ALL!!

The Diaper Trucks arrives at Wayside with over 225,000 diapers of all sizes!

Diapers make their way back to the JCA/KJFS and the magnitude of the delivery sets in 🙂

Volunteers and staff begin to unload.
