For over 60 years, Jewish Family Services (JFS) has provided social services that enhance and support Jewish life throughout the life cycle. We are a family service program with numerous resources including the following:
Information and Referral: Staffed by a licensed social worker, JFS provides information on social service agencies and resources in the community. JFS provides brief counseling on family issues, elder care, immigration, and holocaust survivors programs. Home visits scheduled by appointment. Please call 772-1959.
Counseling Referral Program: Promoting mental health and well being for all ages. Licensed clinicians and psychotherapists in the network are sensitive to the issues of culture and religion in treatment. Areas of practice include individual counseling, couples work, substance abuse, trauma, eating disorders, family therapy and chronic illness. Insurance reimbursable and sliding fee scale. Online Screening for Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Jewish Family Services (JFS) provides online screening for mood and anxiety disorders. A free anonymous screening is made available to all visitors of this website so that you may find out - in a few minutes - whether or not professional consultation would be helpful to you. Support Groups: Facilitated monthly group for Family Caregivers: 2nd Wednesday of each month at 9:15 am. Call 772-1959 for more information; newcomers welcome. Adoption, Bereavement and Cancer support groups in planning phase.
Outreach: Jewish content programs and services at area senior citizen residences. Shabbat on Wheels, Wellness programs, holiday celebrations, Russian interpretation, home visits.
Kosher Meals on Wheels: Volunteers deliver hot kosher meals to Portland elders Monday through Friday. Call 772-1959 for an assessment.
Shabbat on Wheels: Our newest and most rapidly growing outreach program to Jewish senior citizens. Twenty five trained volunteers lead Friday afternoon pre-Shabbat services at six area residences including The Atrium, Park Danforth, The Woods at Canco, Portland Assisted Living Center, Cedar's and The Highlands. This is a joyous time for the over 50 Jewish residents who participate each week. Blessings, songs, special readings, Challah and wine/juice set the tone for a peaceful and restful Shabbos. Refugee and Immigrant Support: Assistance in resettlement and family reunification.
Holocaust Survivors Services: Compassionate support to survivors. Assistance with applications for restitution programs. Second generation support available. For more information, call 772-1959.
Volunteer Opportunities: Numerous mitzvah opportunities including Friendly visiting, Kosher Meal delivery drivers, Shabbat Service leaders, Office help, Tutors, Special Projects. Call 772-1959 for an application.
