Kosher Meals on Wheels - Delivery Driver
Kosher Meals on Wheels are prepared at Cedars kosher kitchen and delivered to homebound seniors or those who are disabled. Sign up to make deliveries once or twice a month. Flexible scheduling allows for summers or winters off, accommodating your needs. Meals are delivered in Portland five days a week, Old Orchard Beach one day a week, and Falmouth two days a week.
Friendly Visitor
Provide support and enrich the lives of seniors through social contact and companionship. You can meet at the person's home, in an assisted living facility, or at another location that is mutually agreed upon. A six month commitment is requested. Schedule is flexible.
Phone Friend
Give a homebound individual a connection with the world outside by becoming a phone friend. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to help but may have limited time to offer. As long as you have a phone, you have the ability to affect positive change in someone's life. A six month commitment is requested.
Help out in the office answering phones and admitting visitors while our Administrative Assistant is at lunch. Position available from one to five hours a week.
If volunteering for special projects is more for you, let us know. We'll put you on an "on-call" list to let you know of upcoming needs such as envelope stuffing or labeling.
Holiday Assistance Volunteers
Twice each year, JFS offers help during the holidays:
Passover: Maot Chittim – JFS volunteers help assemble and deliver Seder plates and Passover food to community members. Those who are hungry, let them eat; those who are in need, let them celebrate the Passover Seder.
Chanukah: Those in need fill out a wish list for themselves and their family. This wish list is passed on to a community member or group who purchases the items. The recipient is anonymous to the donor.
